Posted Date : 16 JUL 2019

For some individuals, getting a nose job is purely for cosmetic reasons. However, for others, it is not necessarily about trying to improve their looks, but rather correcting a medical condition or injury.

While some may consider Rhinoplasty to change the size, shape or proportions of their nose. It may be done to repair deformities from an injury, correct a birth defect or improve breathing difficulties as well.

Rhinoplasty is done not just to enhance ones appearance but also to contribute to one’s overall health. Also, most Rhinoplasty procedures for medical reasons and cosmetic reasons are similar.

There are several medical reasons for a nose job to be performed. They are:

Cleft lip or palate:

Cleft nasal deformity is one of the main reasons to undergo Rhinoplasty. While it can be a complex medical procedure that involves not just the nose but the mouth structure as well, Rhinoplasty helps restore the natural balance of the face. People with cleft lip, especially, children who get an early intervention have greater chances of nasal restoration and can grow up with a symmetrical nose.

Deviated septum:

This is a condition where the central nose cartilage is off-center, making it difficult to breathe through the nose. Deviated septum is more noticeable on one side of the nose and could lead to sinus infections. In this case a type of Rhinoplasty called Septoplasty is performed to make it easier to breath.

Broken nose/fractures:

When the nose or facial bones get fractured or broken, having a Rhinoplasty is the only solution to set it right. A broken nose is generally very painful and can bleed profusely in some cases leading to swelling obstructing normal breathing. Such condition is considered a medical emergency because it can lead to serious infections. Rhinoplasty can correct the nose restoring it to its full function.

Sinus problems:

Experiencing sinus infections often is a symptom of deviated septum, which can lead to a serious medical conditions if left untreated. Undergoing a type of Rhinoplasty called septoplasty corrects the nasal alignment so the sinus can work properly.

Both men and women of any age can benefit from Rhinoplasty. But it is important to have realistic expectations and to have in mind that the decision to have cosmetic surgery is extremely personal. Hence it is important to consult a qualified and skilled cosmetic surgeon who will discuss the procedure with you and help you achieve the desired results.
